Aachen Pilgrimage

Heiligtumsfahrt in Aachen is a historic Catholic pilgrimage and festival held every seven years, rooted in medieval tradition since at least 1349. It celebrates the public showing of four revered cloth relics—associated with Jesus and Mary—kept in the golden Marienschrein of Aachen Cathedral, drawing tens of thousands of pilgrims from around the world. Over about ten days, visitors take part in pilgrim masses, spiritual services, cultural events, and communal gatherings that emphasize faith, reflection, and shared heritage. The event has shaped Aachen’s religious and cultural identity for centuries, blending worship with social and artistic programs.
