Every year, classical strains drift through Lübeck’s Old Town alleys when Lübeck’s Academy of Music stages the Brahms Festival which is famous beyond state boundaries. Lecturers and students present symphonic and chamber music by Brahms and his contemporaries at the highest artistic level.

Classical music beyond large concert halls. Castles, mansions, barns, churches but also shipyards and former industrial complexes form the unusual framework for this popular music festival. This year’s portrait artist is violinist Daniel Hope who is going to turn 50 in the course of the festivities.

Once a year, sailing champions compete on the waves in the strong winds of the Baltic Sea. For ten days, a huge regatta draws the world’s attention to Lübeck’s seaside resort. The sailing is accompanied by lively festivities on land culminating in huge fireworks at the end of the week.

This live music event is all about jazz, funk and soul. Well-known artists, as well as bands with a special relation to Lübeck perform all over the city. (Website available in German)

The Nordic Film Festival Lübeck is considered the most important showing of Nordic films outside of Scandinavia. For many directors, it has been the first step on the international stage towards world fame. Screenings take place all over the city and provide a stunning view into Northern cinematics.
